Port Nikau Hosts Three Southern Wind Yachts
Port Nikau recently had the rare opportunity to host three Southern Wind yachts at the same time: Seatius (2018), Aragon (2013, refit 2019), and Acaia (2008, refit 2023). All built by the renowned Southern Wind Shipyards in South Africa, the presence of these sister yachts at the Port Nikau Superyacht Marina highlights the international reputation of the high-quality marine services available in Whangārei, Northland.
Earlier this year, Seatius underwent significant mast repairs, with the mast removed for servicing by Rig Pro NZ and repainted by Oceania Marine Shipyards at the Port Nikau Main Wharf. In November, the mast was reinstalled, showcasing the depth of marine servicing expertise and quality craftsmanship available in Whangārei.
For Captain Brendan McCoy of Seatius, Port Nikau was highly recommended by fellow captains. He shared, “The welcoming atmosphere and helpfulness of the team here made a huge difference. It’s not just about getting the job done – it’s about the people. The support has been amazing.” He also praised the local lifestyle, noting Whangārei’s proximity to beautiful beaches, hikes and outdoor activities, which makes it an ideal place for the entire crew to make the most of their visit.
Captain Tom of Aragon, who is completing a round-the-world journey, also spoke highly of Port Nikau. “We chose Whangārei for its exceptional marine contractors and peaceful setting. It’s the perfect place to do maintenance while avoiding the city rush. The proximity to nature and great local amenities makes it a special spot.”
Having all three Southern Wind yachts in one place, even with different refit schedules, created a unique community feeling. It’s a rare opportunity for crew members to connect with familiar faces and share experiences.
