A Surge in Superyacht Visits to Port Whangārei

Port Whangarei has transformed over the last decade into an important marine service centre for a wide range of maritime clients. Over the years due to increased demand, the port’s facilities have been re-purposed and more support services established to make it the high-traffic marine hub it is today!

There has recently been a major upgrade in the port’s berthage facilities which was completed as a part of the Port Nikau Joint Venture. The new facilities offer high-quality berths for superyachts and high profile boats and this expansion has proven to be a major attraction, with a steady stream of bookings. This is partly due to the large upgrade, but also a number of New Zealand’s top yacht agents such as Integrated Marine Group and Urban Sea have also opened new offices within the marina. At the same time, Auckland has become increasingly difficult for agents and their superyacht clients who need easy access and prolonged stays for their refit and repair works to be carried out.

With the new facilities at Port Nikau and Auckland becoming more challenging for boat owners, there has been an influx in superyacht projects to Whangārei. This is really positive for the existing marine operators and suppliers and will drive an increase in capacity, benefiting everyone.
