A five-minute drive from Port Nikau is Okara Park. This outdoor shopping centre is home to a supermarket, a chemist, clothing, sports and gift stores, and several eateries.
The Strand is Whangārei’s central shopping area. Located in the centre of town, you’ll find 40+ stores including clothing shops, food courts and pharmacies.
The Town Basin is home to restaurants, boutique gift stores, galleries and jewellery stores, and the Hundertwasser Art Centre.
Provisioning
Stock up on your provisions at many supermarkets, all within a ten-minute drive from Port Nikau. Alternatively, you can find fresh produce at one of the many Whangārei markets, or visit one of the many speciality food stores for niche ingredients.

Healthcare
Whangārei Hospital is a ten-minute drive from Port Nikau. For all non-emergency matters, you can visit the White Cross in Whangārei central, which is open 7 days a week. A pharmacy is located next door.

Getting Around Whangārei
There are several transport options for getting around Whangārei and the city is bicycle-friendly, with new cycle paths connecting Port Nikau to the city centre. Whangārei Airport is only a 15-minute drive from Port Nikau and New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, is only a 40-minute flight or a two-hour drive away. The world-renowned Bay of Islands is only an easy sail away, or a one-hour drive.
