Marina Facilities

Port Nikau is well-established as a base for recreational vessel owners, with newly built piers, modern laundry and showers, locked pier gates, private parking and CCTV coverage. The piers are located next to the historic Tide Gauge building where the Acropolis Cafe, Bar and Grill is located, perfect for an early morning coffee or an evening meal with a marina view. Port Nikau is a five-minute drive or an easy ten-minute cycle from Whangārei CBD where you can find all the amenities that you will need during your stay.

Facilities for Your Boat

  • Access to Port Nikau recreational piers

    Secure access to Port Nikau recreational piers via keypad access at the gate. All pier gates are locked and there is 24/7 CCTV coverage.

  • BBQ area

    A barbeque and patio area is available for cooking and mealtimes.

  • Car parking

    There are parking spaces available to you free of charge at the Port Nikau Marina. These are located right next to the piers.

  • Contractors

    Port Nikau can advise on qualified and reputable contractors and tradespeople. It is the responsibility of the boat owner to ensure that if other contractors are used, they are certified. All contractors must complete a Health and Safety induction on arrival before completing any work. Contact the Marina Manager to arrange.

  • Courtesy cars

    Port Nikau offers the use of a courtesy car for your convenience. For more information please contact the Marina Manager. Terms and conditions apply.

  • Dining options

    The Acropolis Cafe, Bar and Restaurant is a Greek restaurant located next to the piers. It extends over the water, offering marina views while you pick up a morning coffee or dine for lunch or dinner. For more dining options, the city of Whangārei is a five-minute drive from Port Nikau.   • Floating pontoons

    Port Nikau has 58 floating pontoons for recreational vessels at Port Nikau Marina and Eastpoint Marina.

  • Fuel

    Port Nikau has a diesel facility available on the main wharf. Port Nikau reserves the right to restrict access to other fuel suppliers. Fuel may only be delivered to vessels by arrangement with Port Nikau. A bunker fee applies – refer to fuel supplier.

  • Haul Out

    Our neighbours at Port Whangārei Marine Centre offer an efficient haul out service with its 100-tonne and 560-tonne travel lift, an extensive sealed hardstand area, and a full range of marine facilities. Harbourside Boatworks has haulout facilities suitable for catamarans and launches. Both facilities specialise in refits and repairs, yacht joinery, marine painting, conversion projects and insurance work.

  • Internet

    Free WIFI is available in the Marina Facilities. Details will be provided upon your arrival.

  • In-water conversion/refit services

    We can accommodate all of your in-water conversion or refit requirements for a wide range of vessels, including mast removal, in-water painting, and room to service masts up to 65m long.

  • Laundry

    Laundry facilities are located at the Marina Facilities compound at the end of the pier. This includes a washing machine and dryer with a fee of $6 per cycle.

  • Mail and deliveries

    Mail delivery is permitted to our Port Nikau office at 325 Port Road. Further details will be provided on arrival.

  • Power

    Shore power can be provided to vessels that have a current New Zealand Electrical Warrant of Fitness (EWOF). 16 amp and 32 amp single phase provided.

  • Project management and vessel management

    Hire a professional to fully project manage your refit or maintenance work. More detail is provided in our Marine Services Directory.

  • Rubbish

    General rubbish and recycling are located at the Marina Facilities Compound at the end of Pier B.

  • Sewage

    Port Nikau provides a land-based pump-out facility at Pier B. Vessels fitted with a toilet must have a functioning black water holding tank that can be discharged here. Discharge of sewage from vessels into the Marina is not allowed.

  • Shopping

    There are several supermarkets, retail stores and speciality sports stores in Whangārei CBD, a five-minute drive from Port Nikau. Okara Shopping Centre is the closest shopping centre to Port Nikau. It is an outdoor shopping centre with a Countdown supermarket and retail shops including The Warehouse, Kmart, Rebel Sports, Torpedo7, Chemist Warehouse and various eateries.

  • Showers and toilets

    Clean, modern unisex toilets and showers are located at the Marina Facilities compound at the end of Pier B.

  • Trolleys

    Dock trolleys are available to use.

  • Waste oil

    Waste oil facilities are available in the overflow car park at the Port Nikau office. Further details will be provided on arrival.

  • Water

    Drinkable water is available at all berths.

Port Nikau Marina currently has 48 floating pontoons available. On completion, the marina will offer 120 berths within the future Port Nikau residential development.

On-Water Maintenance

Eastpoint Marina is suited to cruising vessels and for on-water repair and maintenance. The 24-hour fuel stop is located here.
